More Information:
About the Alan Bruce Martin Family:
Alan and wife Aileen Martin were found in the 1935 Shreveport City Directory, living with Aileen's adopted
parents W.M. and Emily Stewart at 2431 Virginia Ave. Alan was a driver with Herrin Motor Lines, and
Aileen was a beauty operator at The Art Mode Beauty Shoppe. This was the first year that they were found
at the Stewart residence, and they had probably just recently married.
In the 1936 Shreveport
City Directory, Alan and Aileen were living at the same address. Alan was a driver with Herrin Motor
Lines, and Aileen was a beauty operator at The Beauty Box.
About Alan Bruce Martin:
Al's birth surname was Van Horn, he changed it to Martin as a young man. I believe that the Lloyd Van
Horn referred to in the Census for 1920 and 1930 below refers to Alan B. Martin before his name change.
On his WWII draft card, Alan states that he was born in Mt. Clemens, Macomb Co., MI on11/27/1912, which
fits well with the info on the two Census..
1920 Census, MI, Malcomb Co., Washington Township: Horace
Van Horn 59; farmer; born PA. Iva Vanhorn 59 Harry Vanhorn 35; born Mi. Sadie Vanhorn 33;
born MI. Lloyd Vanhorn 7 (grandson of Horace, son of Harry & Sadie). Mary Vanhorn 2-9/12
1930
Census, MI, Malcomb Co., Mount Clemens Township: Harry W Van Horn 44; salesman; born MI. Sadie
E Van Horn 42; born MI; father born MI, mother born NY. Lloyd Lewis Van Horn 17 (son of Harry &
Sadie); single; laborer. Mary Iva Van Horn 13; born MI. Robert E Van Horn 8; born MI. Janice
Merdith Van Horn 5; born MI.
The Shreveport, LA City Directory of 1935 shows Alan living with
his wife Aileen at the residence of Aileen's parents, the Stewarts.
The Shreveport, LA City Directory
of 1940 shows Alan living with his wife Aileen at 2431 Virgina Ave. Alan's occupation was Operator,
Shreveport Railways Co.
The Shreveport, LA City Directory of 1950 shows Alan living with his
wife Aileen at 2431 Virgina Ave. Alan's occupation was Switchman.
There was no Shreveport, LA
City Directory for 1951.
The Shreveport, LA City Directory of 1952 shows Alan living with his
wife Aileen at 2431 Virgina Ave. Alan had no occupation listed.
I believe that Alan Martin was
seriously injured in an accident in 1950.
About Aileen E. Stewart:
Stewart was not Aileen's birth surname, She was adopted by the Stewarts at a young age. Her birth surname
could have been Fleming (unverified).
The Stewarts were living in Leesville, LA at the time of
the 1920 Census. Aileen was not shown living with the couple at that time. Aileen was apparently adopted
betwen 1920 and 1930. .........................................................................
