Charles H. Bedell, a native of New York (State) but for more than thirty years
a resident of Columbia, So. Ca., died in that City, Aug. 27, 1868. Mr. Bedell was an active and industrious
man.... the Black Republican part of the North, East and West, had with him, as with thousands more,
been a source of almost utter ruin.... He had succeeded, having erected a spacious store and dwelling,
on the ruins of the former site....

Charles Allen
Bedell, eldest son of C. A. Bedell Esq. (deceased), died in Columbia So. Ca. April 7th 1873. Appended
is a notice of his deceased from the Columbia "Phoenix" [clipping] "Death of a Young Columbian. Mr.
Charles Allen Bedell, eldest son of our late fellow citizen, C. A. Bedell, Esq., died, yesterday, about
6 1/2 o'clock A. M. He was afflicted with Bright's disease of the kidneys.... He was a native of Columbia,
and had [p.149] always resided here. His age was twenty-four - the 6th of April being his birth-day....
The funeral ceremonies will be performed at the Presbyterian Church, this morning, at 9 o'clock.
