Merrell Cemetery - Hempstead County, Arkansas
(Partial List)
Merrell Cemetery can be reached by going east from
Nashville on US Highway 371 for about six miles to Belton. The cemetery is
behind a church on the
left. The cemetery was moved here from its original location in 1941 when
the Southwest Proving Ground was established in Hempstead County by the
Federal Government, displacing the cemetery along with the homes of many people.
Several mistakes were noticed on headstones, possibly occurring when stones were
replaced (?).
