The 1860 Slave Schedules state that R. Murril owned six slaves.
His personal property ownership was $5550, probably mostly the slaves.

William Murrell was a Civil War veteran. William Murrell served with the Confederate Army in Co. K, 17 Texas Cavalry during the Civil War. A Robert Murrell (William's brother's name) also served with the same unit.

A William Murrell of Harrison County was found on the Confederate Indigent Families Lists (1863-1865).

William filed an Application for Confederate Pension in 1899 at age 79. His widow Martha E. filed an Application for Confederate Pension in 1903.

William states on his Confederate Pension Application that he had lived in Texas since 1844, presumably the year that his father Edmund Murrell brought the family to Texas from Tennessee.
