Apparently, a "Tobacconist" is someone
who sells tobacco. (I'm afraid I had to look that one up.) Andrew Jones was a younger brother of Zack. ............................................................................

Biographical
Sketch of Zachariah Jones
(From: History of Knox and Daviess County Indiana Goodspeed Publishing;
Chicago; 1886 Page: 782)
"Capt. Zachariah Jones, a highly respected citizen of Daviess County,
was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, September 28, 1841, and is one of five living children of Renna
(Madara) Jones, natives, respectively, of South Carolina, and Pennsylvania. His father came to Daviess
County with his parents at an early day, and lived here until he had arrived at the age of manhood,
when he returned to Pennsylvania, married, and lived in that State until 1861. He then returned to Daviess
County, and has since resided here on a farm. The subject of this sketch was reared on a farm and secured
at common school education in his youthful days. At the age of ten he began learning the cigar-maker's
trade, which he followed until 1861, when he enlisted in the Sixth Pennsylvania Infantry, serving out
the time of his enlistment, three months. He then came to Daviess County, and enlisted in Company H,
Fifty-eight Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry, serving until the close of the war. He was promoted
from Orderly Sargeant, to Second and First Lieutenant, and was brevetted Captain at the close of the
war. After the Battle of Stone River, he was appointed to the staff of Gen. Buell, and was serving on
Gen. Hooker's staff when mustered out of service. He returned to Washington, and engaged in the cigar
and tobacco business, which he continued with good success, until 1873. This business he resumed in
1876, and conducted until 1885, when he engaged in the general grocery business, which he is now conducting
with a fair measure of success. He carries a full and select stock of goods, and enjoys a large share
of trade. He has always been a stanch Republican, and in 1878, was elected by his party as sheriff of
Daviess County, serving one term faithfully and efficiently. He is a Mason and a member of the I.O.O.F.
In 1865, he was married to Eliza A. Eads, by whom he had four children, three of whom are now living:
Alfred C., Cora C., and Lucy May." ...............................................................................
About Eliza Ann Eads:
Found on 1850 Census with family, age 4. ................................................................
Found
in the 1870 and 1880 Census with her husband Zachariah. She was also found in the 1900 Census living
with her daughter Lucy M., next door to her son, Alfred Charles Jones. Zack was found living alone,
also in Washington, IN. .................................................................

Jones 64 (4 children born, 3 living) Lucy M Jones 30 ..................................................................
About John Jones:
John was in the 1870 census, but not the 1880, so it is assumed that he died prior to June, 1880.
About Lucy May Jones:
I assume that May L., found in the 1880 Census, is the same person as Lucy M., found in the 1900 and
1910 Census. In the 1910 Census, she was single, age 30, occupation none, living with her parents.
