From
Marie Key's book: "A. J. Harris moved to Tulia, Texas in 1906. Business was just opening up in this
western town. The Santa Fe Railroad extended it's line from Canyon to Plainview in 1906. Harris's
first business connection was with Fulton Lumber Company. They were opening a yard and A.J. Harris
assisted in the construction of the first sheds. He later went with Rockwell Lumber Company at Kress
and after eight years returned to Tulia where he went into business for himself as an independent dealer
until his death. A. J. Harris served as mayor of Tulia from 1923 until 1925. He then served as alderman
following his service as mayor." ...................................................................
