| Notes for Edgar E. Hudspeth |
| E. E. was postmaster at Texarkana for several years. From Frank Vanderbilt, Houston, TX: "Edgar E Hudsepth was the son of Frances Perry Hudspeth who married Elizabeth Blackman Calhoun in Harris Co GA, after her husband Josiah Calhoun died of measles. They married in 1855 and they all moved to Arkansas, sometime around 1880. Elizabeth Calhoun had a son, Christopher Columbus Calhoun, born in 1850, who was of course a half brother to E.E. Hudsepth. According to the Census in 1860, Frank & Elizabeth had two infants, apparently twins. CC married Lelia Gibson in 1874 and she died in 1876. At the time of the move CC’s daughter Minnie E. was about 5 years old. I am told the women went to Hope, AR by train and the men joined them after they made the trip by wagon. After a time they moved to Polk Co., then to Howard Co. Minnie married my wife’s grandfather James Monroe Power. I’m told that CC was a Democrat and EE was a Republican. They both held the Postmaster’s job in Nashville, AR, depending what party was in power. EE later got the Postmaster’s job at Texarkana, which was considered a real plum!" |
