Obituary:
Mary Dorcas Balch Hutson died peacefully with family and friends surrounding her on Thursday, November 6, 2003. She was a vibrant 95 year old mother and grandmother. Mary was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, to Sarah and Andrew Balch, on July 15, 1908. She was one of 12 children. As a young girl she traveled with her family by wagon to Amity, Arkansas, where she eventually met and married Andrew Clyde Hutson. Together, they raised four children and farmed the land. In 1953, Mary moved with her husband and children to Ashland, Oregon. Mary lived her life as a fine Christian woman, loving everyone unconditionally. She took care of her grandchildren and neighborhood children, as well. She kept a watchful eye on her elderly friends, too. She always had a wonderful garden with beautiful flowers and vegetables. She canned what she grew and took great joy in cooking for those she loved. Mary also enjoyed playing games with her children and grandchildren. Mary was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ashland, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She read her bible daily. Survivors include her children, Mary Helen Troutman, Wanda Jo Wood and James Hutson and wife, Ann Marie, all of Ashland, Janie Sills and husband, John, of Klamath Falls, Oregon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cindy and Les Stuckwish, Steve and Kim Wood, Jim Troutman, Dan and Lori Hutson, Deborah and Steve Smith, Julie and Tavee Punsuk, Janell and Mike Mithani, Dweslie and Brenda Hutson, 18 great grandchildren and 7 great, great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Woodrow Balch of Palo Verdes, Walter Balch of Nashville, Arkansas, David Balch of Santa Ana, California, and Laura Puryear of Bryant, Arkansas. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde, baby Bonnie, grandson, Darell Troutman, two sons-in-law, Bob Troutman and Graham Wood. and three sisters and four brothers. A celebration of life will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, officiated by Brother Gordon Robinson, Rev. Stephen Jones, and Brother Jim Erickson, at 2201 North Phoenix Road in Medford, at 11 a.m. Monday, November, 10. A reception will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 2082 East Main in Ashland following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church. The family deeply appreciates the loving care provided by the staff at Ashland Community Hospital and the Hospice Program at RVMC.
