About Luther Harold Hardy:

The following was written by Luther H. Hardy, and provided by his daughter Sandra Carlberg:

" When my grandfather John R. Hardy married Margaret (Greer) Wheeless (1842-1898), Margaret had a son Will (William) Wheeless from a previous marriage who was born in 1860. I believe William Wheeless died at Center Ridge (near Pike City, Arkansas, in Pike County) in 1939. In addition to William Wheeless I understand there were also two girls Margaret had who were younger than Will. One girl was Mattie (note: apparently Margaret) but I don't remember the other girls name (Note: apparently Nancy). After Margaret's marriage to John R. Hardy he adopted all three children. William (Will) Wheeless (1860-1939) and Robert L. Hardy went into the wholesale and retail fish business in Galveston, Texas together and I understand both became very wealthy. Robert L. Hardy retired to San Leon, Texas near Texas City; and when I was 5 or 6 years old my family (Alton and Geneva Hardy) lived in San Leon, Texas. I remember visiting my Uncle Robert's house ( a huge white two story frame house built high on stilts with a huge surround porch) and on about 15 or 20 acres near the beach (about two blocks) where all the boats were kept. Will Wheeless retired to Shawnut and Center Ridge Arkansas where he purchased many acres of land to live near his two sons. Will had two sons Jackson and Arlie who had large land holdings nearby ."
