E.V. Melton was found on the 1880 Census, Texas, Harrison County. She is shown married to W. M. Melton, with daughters Alice, 13 and L. L. Murrell, 13, listed as step-daughters of Melton, and daughter Florence Melton, 6, and son Axum, 1. This was a second marriage, her first being to Edmund Murrell.

Evelyn Melton is listed in both the 1910 and 1920 Census as a widow, living with her daughter Laura Ferguson in Shreveport, La. She gave Mississippi as her birthplace, and Mississippi as the birthplace of both her parents. She was 68 years old at the time of the 1910 census, which was April, 1910. It indicated that she was the mother of seven children, five living.

Eveline Melton filed an Application for Confederate Pension (no. 31817) on her second husband's service in March, 1915. His name was given as W. M. (Wyatt) Melton. On the application, she gave her husband's date of death (4/19/1890), date of their marriage (9/8/1870), and stated that she was born in MS and had resided in TX for 60 years. She said that her husband served about two years with the Home Guard at "Tyler and later went to the border". Apparently the War Dept. could find no record of Melton's service, but Eveline's application was approved on August 15, 1915. At the time of her application, she was living ("for about six months") at P. O. Crosbyton, Crosby Co., TX, I believe with her daughter, Florence Alexander, who I found there in the 1920 Census.
